Deleting your Otaly account
You can delete your account from the app at any time. Here is exactly what happens when you do, and the rare cases where we have to pause it.

How to delete your account
Open the Otaly app (or app.otaly.com), go to Settings → Account, and choose "Delete account". After you confirm, your account is closed immediately: you are signed out everywhere, your sign-in methods (email, Google, Apple) are disconnected, and your profile stops being visible to others.
If you can no longer access your account, you can request deletion through the contact page instead — we will verify that the request really comes from the account holder before acting on it.
In rare cases the app has to refuse the deletion for the moment: while one of your events is frozen for a moderation or fraud review, or while a paid subscription cannot be cancelled with the payment provider. The app tells you when this happens. The block lifts once the review or the payment problem is resolved, and you can always reach us through the contact page to ask where your request stands.
What gets deleted
Deleting your account removes your profile (name, photo, bio, contact details) and disconnects every way of signing in. If you signed in with Apple, we also ask Apple to revoke the app's Sign in with Apple authorization. If that cannot be completed, the app tells you and links to Apple's own page so you can remove it yourself.
Your personal data and content are deleted or irreversibly anonymized within 90 days at the latest. This includes content shared with others, which is removed or detached from your identity.
Deletion is permanent. If you later create a new account, none of your previous data — events, registrations, messages, or settings — can be restored.
Your username
When you delete your account, your username is permanently reserved: it never becomes available to anyone else, so nobody can impersonate you or take over your old handle.
The reservation is held for you alone. If you return to Otaly and we can verify you are the same person — by signing in with the same Apple or Google account, or with the same verified email address within 60 days of the deletion — you can claim your old username again, but it comes back empty: reclaiming the username does not restore any data from the deleted account.
Signing in with the same Apple or Google account works however long you stay away. A verified email address only counts for those first 60 days, because email addresses can be reassigned to someone else and we will not hand your username to a stranger who happens to inherit your old mailbox. After that window, write to us through the contact page (topic "Privacy & account deletion") and we will verify you another way.
If you run any public channels, their web addresses are permanently retired as well. Like your username, a channel address is never handed to anyone else; but unlike your username it cannot be reclaimed or restored, so existing links to those channel pages will stop working, and any channels you create if you return to Otaly will use new addresses.
What we are required to keep
Some records are kept after deletion, in the most limited form we can: billing and transaction records (such as invoices and payout records) that tax and accounting laws require us to retain for a legally mandated period; minimal fraud- and abuse-prevention signals; and the reserved username described above. These records are kept separate from your deleted profile and are not used for any other purpose.
We keep these records only for as long as the applicable law requires, and we do not use them to rebuild your profile. Details are in our privacy policy.
